Fitness Mobile Apps Improve the Health of Users in Lockdown

Downloads of health and fitness apps surged by 40% during the week of March 22, 2020, and attracted record amounts of consumer spending. Apps such as Asana Rebel and Nike Training Club proved to be some of the biggest winners as consumers searched for ways to maintain or increase their fitness levels while remaining inside their homes.

Health apps earned over $59 million in consumer spending during the week of March 22, up 40% from the same time last year, and Fitness apps drew in more than $36 million—an increase of 10% from the same period 2019. This is particularly notable given that the months heading into spring are traditionally the peak season for health and fitness app downloads. The spike in numbers reflect the surging interest in health and fitness apps since the Coronavirus crisis began, but the broad user interest and adoption is expected to continue after the crisis ends.
